Whiz Kids The tutoring makes a big difference. The one-on-one mentoring relationships help change lives. Statistics have shown that the two most important factors for children to escape a life of poverty are a good education, and relationships with caring adults. CityCURE’s Whiz Kids provides both. Through Whiz Kids, churches “adopt” local elementary schools, providing caring adult volunteers who tutor and mentor at-risk students while building relationships that help urban youth grow educationally, socially, and spiritually. These relationships have room to grow in optional clubs focusing on arts, music, literature, and other activities. Ultimately, the children, their families, and their communities will benefit from these long-term relationships. Whiz Kids is active in schools and churches located in Over-the-Rhine, Madisonville, North College Hill, and other similar neighborhoods. More churches and schools are being added to the Whiz Kids program as resources become available. The goal is to involve 50 churches and schools to impact over 5,000 students, volunteers, and teachers within in the next five years.
For more information or to see how your church or school can connect with Whiz Kids, contact Barry Baker at (513) 345-1056 or bbaker@citycure.org.
